Shalom,

My name's Rivka Chakak.

I was born and raised in LA, to parents in the advanced stages of their ba'alei teshuva journey. I learned in a 'Jewish' school and continued in a modern orthodox one, and afterward moved to a true Bais Yaakov high school.

Due to my diverse schooling, relatives and family, and unique shul whose members ranged from soon-to-be ba'alei teshuva to modern orthodox to kollel yungerman, I got to know all these audiences well.

After high school I made Aliya with my parents, learned in 'Ofakim Seminary and Torah college for girls' and came out with a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education (yup, with 100% language immersion and stubborn determination to speak fluent Hebrew, I was able to write my thesis in HEBREW!)
 

After marriage I moved to Bnei Brak, worked as a preschool teacher in an English-speaking preschool, and after my firstborn son was born- I looked for a 'work from home' option. That's how I became a freelance content writer and translator.

Thus, with English as my mother tongue, my Hebrew comprehension is on mother tongue level, and my Hebrew speech and writing is on almost mother tongue level (I speak to my husband and kids in Hebrew only.)

Throughout my career, I saw how important it is to know the target audience. When translating I made clarification changes so that topics that are sensitive to the target audience were communicated clearly. This brought on gret success to my client.​

When writing content (in English) for Israeli clients, they had trouble with my change of style from the way they are used to communicating with Israelis. I explained to them that you can't use the same kind of communication methods to speak to Americans- they WON'T BECOME LOYAL DONORS if you do... It took them a while to accept this, but in the end the conceded that indeed, I was right...​
